Basement Remodeling in Northern Virginia

Reimagine the Most Overlooked Space in Your Home

Your Basement Could Be the Favorite Room in Your Home

Most families know their basement has potential. But turning that potential into a space you actually love spending time in takes more than framing and flooring. It takes thoughtful design, real infrastructure work, and a team that treats what’s behind the walls with the same care as what’s in front of them. Here are the frustrations we hear most and how we solve them.

Issue:

Your Basement Is Dark, Unfinished, and Wasting Space

There’s good square footage in your basement, but right now it’s holding storage bins instead of making memories. The space is dark, the ceilings feel low, and no one has a reason to go downstairs. You know there’s something better waiting. It just needs the right hands.

Full Design Reconfiguration

We start by rethinking the entire layout, not just finishing what’s already there. Every square foot is considered, every corner is intentional. You’ll see 3D renderings of your basement before construction begins, so the space already feels like yours before we pick up a single tool.

Brand-New Systems From the Ground Up

Most unfinished basements need far more than cosmetic attention. We install brand-new HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, cut concrete for drains and rough-ins, and add egress windows so your basement meets code and feels like a real, livable part of your home.

Soundproofing and Comfort Upgrades

We insulate with rockwool, add soundproofing between floors, and design the space so it feels like its own world. Whether it becomes a home theater or a guest suite, the basement should feel like a destination, not a compromise.

Issue:

Your Family Has Outgrown the Main Floors

The kids are getting older, guests are visiting more often, and the main living areas are stretched thin. You need room to entertain, to unwind, to spread out. Building up or out isn’t an option, but you’re sitting on hundreds of square feet that could change everything.

Entertainment Spaces Your Family Gravitates Toward

Bars, kitchenettes, lounge areas, and media rooms designed to become the heart of your home. For a basement project in Alexandria, we created a Polo Lounge-inspired speakeasy with brick veneers, dark finishes, and a cigar lounge feel, turning 800 square feet of concrete into the room their whole family gathers in.

Gyms, Saunas, and Wellness Retreats

More and more families are bringing wellness home. Full gyms with cold plunges, saunas, and recovery rooms. Your basement has the ceiling height and the square footage. We handle the plumbing, ventilation, and electrical to bring it to life.

Bedrooms and Bathrooms That Add Real Function

A bedroom with an egress window and a full bathroom turns your basement into a true living level. Whether it’s for an aging parent, a college kid coming home, or a long-term guest suite, we design these spaces into the layout from the very beginning.

Issue:

Dampness, Outdated Materials, and a Space That Feels Unusable

The basement smells musty, the insulation is failing, and the finishes, if any, feel dated and uncomfortable. You’ve thought about finishing it, but the moisture and infrastructure problems make it feel like too big of a lift.

Infrastructure-First Approach

We don’t cover up problems. Before any finish work begins, we address moisture, waterproofing, insulation, and ventilation. Concrete is cut, systems are replaced, and the envelope is sealed so the space is dry, comfortable, and built to last.

Finish Materials Built for Below-Grade Living

We use luxury vinyl plank, laminate, and tile flooring, materials that hold up in basement conditions without sacrificing warmth or style. We avoid carpet, recommend rockwool insulation, and update flooring and stair stringers so the transition from upstairs to downstairs feels seamless.

A Basement That Feels Like the Rest of Your Home

Custom cabinetry, countertops, thoughtful lighting, and cohesive finishes throughout. The goal is simple: when you walk downstairs, it should feel like a natural extension of everything you love about your home, not an afterthought.

Basement Remodeling FAQs

Most of our basement remodels fall in the $100K to $125K range, with more involved build-outs like home theaters, cigar lounges, wellness retreats, and full bars starting at $150K and up. The biggest factors that affect cost are square footage, the scope of structural and system work (concrete cutting, new HVAC, electrical, plumbing), the number of rooms being added, and the level of finish selections you choose. We share pricing examples from similar projects during your discovery call so you have a realistic range before we ever visit your home.

No. We specialize in major basement renovations that require full design work, new systems, structural modifications, and code-compliant egress. If you're looking for a simple cosmetic refresh, we're probably not the right fit.

Everything except appliances. We handle full design reconfiguration, concrete cutting, egress windows, brand-new HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems, insulated walls, flooring, cabinetry, countertops, lighting, and all finish work. You'll see 3D renderings and walk through the products and finishes at our design center before signing a contract.

We take care of moisture and infrastructure issues before any finish work begins. That means proper waterproofing, insulation (we use rockwool), ventilation, and drainage so the finished space stays dry and comfortable for years to come.

Timelines depend on scope, but a typical WISA basement remodel runs 10–12 weeks for construction, with additional time for design and pre-construction. We'll give you a realistic timeline during your discovery call and keep you updated with milestone check-ins throughout the project.

Always. We pull permits on every project, including basements, to ensure code compliance and protect your home's resale value. It's one of the ways we hold ourselves to a higher standard.
